WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU REQUIRE AN EYE OPERATION?
If you require an eye operation, our surgical coordinator will provide you with information on your operation details, estimated costs of your surgery and any out-of-pocket expenses. If you have private health insurance, we advise that you check with the health fund regarding the level of your cover and the level of health fund rebate payable to you for the treatment, particularly for hospital fees. The Anaesthetist will contact you directly regarding your procedure.

You will be advised regarding fasting time prior to surgery, accommodation, transport and directions to hospitals. Fasting time is usually 6 hours for food and 2 hours for clear fluids and water prior to your admission time. It is important that you have an accompanying person with you on the day of your surgery.
If you are on any blood-thinning agents such as Aspirin, Warfarin, Plavix, Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa, or fish oil, it is important that you advise us so our doctors can provide you with appropriate pre-operative instructions on whether to cease these medications prior to your surgery. If you are a diabetic, it is important to advise of your medications, particularly if you are on insulin, or SGLT2 inhibitors such as Janumet. Please also notify us if you are on any drugs which are used for prostate conditions such as Duodart and Tamsulosin as these may affect your pupils and dilation.
