Her field of research spans across several areas, including studies on myopia development and myopia control, electrophysiology of retinal processing pathways, and diagnostic ophthalmic imaging in retinal diseases.
With over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, Dr Chen is therapeutically endorsed and has a keen interest in macular and retinal diseases. For over a decade, Dr Chen served as a Governor-appointed assessor on the Professional Conduct Review Panel at Queensland Health.
In addition to her extensive experience in clinical practice, Dr Chen has a strong interest in clinical research and contributes to the scientific literature. She has authored scientific papers in both optometry and ophthalmology journals and co-authored a book chapter on Macular Surgery: Current Practice and Trends. Furthermore, she has worked collaboratively with research teams on multi-centre clinical trials at City Eye Centre for new treatments of eye diseases, especially those targeting macular degeneration.
Dr Chen has been a prominent advocate for the significant clinical benefits of optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging in patient care, since its commercial availability in the early 2000s. Her current focus lies in the advancement and application of wide-field, high-definition OCT angiography (OCTA) and the application of imaging modalities to retinal diseases. This strong interest in the implementation of ophthalmic imaging will take greater focus in the emerging field of dry macular degeneration treatment.
Dr Chen strongly believes in the value of patient management through advanced diagnostic imaging technology to improve patient education and enhance eye care delivery, ensuring optimal treatment outcomes.
