Dr Jennifer Chen is a clinical optometrist and director of Retina Services, City Eye Centre. Dr Chen graduated with First Class Honours from QUT and was awarded a University Medal for her clinical excellence and academic achievements.
As one of Australia’s top ten doctoral candidates, Dr Chen continued further training, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy and completing a Post-doctoral Fellowship. Her field of research included myopia development, electrodiagnostic studies of retinal processing pathways and optical coherence tomography in retinal diseases.
Dr Chen is Board-certified, therapeutically endorsed and has over 20 years of experience in clinical practice and research. For over a decade, Dr Chen served as a Governor-appointed assessor on the Professional Conduct Review Panel at Queensland Health.
Dr Chen has a strong interest in clinical research. She has authored scientific papers in both optometry and ophthalmology journals, as well as book chapters on macular surgery. Furthermore, she collaborates with research teams in multi-centred clinical trials on new treatments of eye diseases for FDA approvals, especially with macular degeneration treatments.
Dr Chen was a prominent advocate in Australia for the significant clinical benefits of OCT imaging in patient care when the technology first became commercially available. Her focus lies in the advancement of wide-field, high-definition OCT angiography and the application of imaging modalities to retinal diseases. Dr Chen is deeply passionate about implementing innovative ophthalmic diagnostic technology to enhance patient education, improve treatment outcomes, and optimize eye care delivery.
